A CARLA CARGO cargo trailer is surprisingly easy and intuitive to ride. Even with a heavy load, the riding experience is virtually the same as riding a regular bike. Many cities, municipalities, and states offer subsidies for the purchase of cargo trailers by individuals, businesses, or organizations. The subsidy programs vary by region.

Valid for all CARLAs (with and without motor)

• the loading area has a base area of 1650 mm x 650 mm
• the base area holds 4 Euro boxes of 600 mm × 400 mm
• the trailer is 960 mm wide at its widest point
• the highest point on the tow bar is 800 mm high
• the total length is 3050 mm including the tow bar

Your bike must be equipped with a trailer coupling once. The trailer coupling is mounted on the saddle bar of your bicycle. The tow bar of the bike trailer can then be coupled and secured to the trailer coupling.

Uncoupled from the bicycle, the trailer can function as an independent hand cart. In handcart operation the CARLA can transport up to 200 kg. The eCARLA's electric drive supports you with up to 6 km/h when delivering the heavy loads on the last meters.

The CARLA can safely transport up to 200 kilograms as a heavy load trailer behind a bicycle. Basically, the CARLA is designed for the transport of goods and cargo but not for the transport of persons.

You should store your CARLA in a dry place, so that it is protected from wind and weather. Especially the electronics should be protected from water. To save space you can put the CARLA upright on its rear edge against the wall. The wheels should point to the wall and the drawbar should be on the loading area.

You can find the serial number of your CARLA on the left wheel suspension at the rear wheel. New models have the number on the outside and older frames have the number towards the loading area. It is a six-digit number or a combination of a letter and a five-digit number.

Your CARLA can be individually powder coated in your desired color. Please indicate your desired color in your order with the corresponding RAL code. The individual color selection costs you a small surcharge and takes about 2 weeks longer to deliver.

The effect of the colors in RAL codes may vary slightly. When ordering a CARLA in the color of your choice, an exchange due to color deviations is excluded. Outside of the EU we offer yellow and black trailers only!

Normally we deliver within 4 weeks after placing the order. With cargo boxes and desired color, it may take longer (plus 2 weeks). The obligatory deposit is considered as placing of order. The date on the order confirmation counts as the start of the expected delivery date.

A deposit via SEPA bank transfer of 50% of the sales price is mandatory, so we can produce your CARLA. You can pay via SEPA bank transfer or direct debit. Payment by installments, PayPal, credit card or cash payments are not possible.

A motorized CARLA can support you with a maximum speed of 25kmh/h while cycling. In handcart mode your CARLA follows with a speed of up to 6km/h.

With every eCARLA you get a throttle grip and a pedal sensor as standard. The installation of both parts is absolutely necessary to motorize your eCARLA with your bike. The throttle grip is attached to the handlebars and the pedal sensor is attached to the left side of the pedal crank.

Since there are quite a lot of different pedal cranks, we also have different versions in stock. It helps us a lot if you tell us your pedal crank (photo) in advance so that we can deliver the right pedal sensor.

A later retrofitting from CARLA to eCARLA is technically possible in specialized bicycle dealers after consultation with CARLA CARGO.

In the eCARLA, we install a pedelec lithium iron phosphate battery with a capacity of 720 Wh as standard. The battery is fully recharged in 4 hours.

The service life of the battery depends on its use. After 700 charging cycles, experience shows that the output capacity of the battery drops to about 80%. This means that even with intensive use this corresponds to a minimum period of two years. If a value of less than 60% is reached after 24 months, there is a defect. The service life of the battery can be up to 10 years if it is handled carefully.

The range of the batteries depends on factors such as the travelling distance, riding style, topography, battery temperature and the total weight of the vehicle.
The 48V battery has a range of 40-50 kilometers and a charging time of 4 hours.

If you own an eCARLA, you should pay special attention to the battery during longer breaks in use. If a Li-ion battery is not used for a long time, it is recommended to store it at a temperature of 15-20°C and a charge level of 40-80%. This is especially important in the winter months, when bicycles are usually stored in a garage, where temperatures are very cold. An incorrectly stored battery can under certain circumstances lose a lot of capacity after just a few charging cycles and even fail completely.

Due to the unclear legal situation, we currently do not sell electrically supported trailers outside the EU.  The UK is excluded from this rule.

This means that currently no eCARLAs are sold in the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. This also applies to Switzerland.
